The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandik Committee (SGPC) has postponed the 'honour ceremony' which was to be held at the Akal Takht on Tuesday.

The decision was taken by the SGPC on account of the sudden demise of Baba Daya Singh, the head of the Sursingh based Baba Bidhi Chand sect.

Baba Bidhi Chand had passed away on Sunday at Sursingh village in Tarn Taran district.

At the ceremony, Akal Takht jathedar, Giani Gurbachan Singh was to honour former Golden Temple 'hazoori ragi', Bhai Gurmej Singh and the late Amrik Singh 'Zakhmi', who was well known for his 'kirtan'. While Bhai Gurmej Singh was to be bestowed with the 'Professor of Sikhism' award for having translated the Guru Granth Sahib into the Braille, 'Zakhmi' was chosen for the 'Shiromani Ragi' award, which his son would receive.

A SGPC release on Monday said that a fresh date for the ceremony would be intimated soon.
