The World Punjab Language Sammelan to be organised by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) will be held on February 5 and 6 at Baba Banda Singh Bhadaur Engineering College, Fatehgarh Sahib.
This “sammelan” or conference was to be held in October but due to the disturbed conditions that were prevailing in the state following incidents of sacrilege of the Guru Granth Sahib, the SGPC had postponed it, but had not given a revised schedule. However, now it has been decided to hold this conference in February.
Disclosing this here on Saturday, SGPC additional secretary Daljit Singh Bedi said besides scholars from India, there would be participants from Pakistan and other regions of the world. “This is for the first time that the SGPC is organising such a conference and SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar had called upon the organisers (SGPC) to make the event a success,” he added.
Bedi said during the two-day event, scholars and Punjab language experts would trace the history of the Punjabi language and suggest ways and means for popularising it worldwide.
