SGPC to open technical university in Punjab

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar has announced that the committee will open a technical university in Punjab.

Presently, Punjab Technical University (PTU), Jalandhar, is the only technical university in the state.

Talking to mediapersons after laying foundation stone of Mata Gujri Girls Hostel here on Thursday, Makkar said SGPC is focusing on education.

He said SGPC will convert Sri Guru Ramdas Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Amritsar into Sri Guru Ramdas Medical University.

SGPC is presently funding and running Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib.
He said the committee is setting up Baba Ajay Singh Technical College at Nangal Garhi of Gurdaspur and added that this college will also work under Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Educational Trust, which is managing two colleges in Fatehgarh Sahib.

He said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should play a positive role for conducting Delhi Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee election before December 31.

On this occasion, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University vice-chancellor Gurmohan Singh Walia highlighted the achievements of the university.

Former SGPC president Kirpal Singh Badungar, SGGSWU trustees Sukhdev Singh Bhaur and Kiranjot Kaur, Registrar Pritpal Singh were also present on the occasion.
