A BA-3 student of Government College, Hoshiarpur, has alleged nepotism in the selection process during trials of various sports held on July 3 this year on Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, campus.
A resident of Bahar Majara village in Nawanshahar, Gurjinder Kaur said that Punjab sports department had organised trials of various sports for girls from colleges affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh and Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on PAU campus on July 3.
"I got first position in the shot put and second position in discus throw in the trials, but my name was missing from the selection list," she said.
Kaur said that she enquired from the sports department but didn't get a satisfactory reply on why her name was not there in the final list.
She claimed that even in the past she had been discriminated against. She said she had stood first in shot put and second in discus throw during the trials held at Lyallpur Khalsa College in Jalandhar in 2011, but still she was not sellected.
Kaur said she had sent a written complaint to chief minister, deputy chief minister, education minister and authorities of Panjab University and PAU, with a request to review the list of selected girls.
When contacted, district sports officer Kartar Singh said that he had discussed the issue with the officials concerned and it would be sorted out by Tuesday. "We are considering the case of Gurjinder Kaur positively," he said.
