"Before lapsing into unconsciousness, my daughter told me that the accused, whom she used to call 'uncles', had committed the heinous crime several times in recent months. She had kept mum as the trio had threatened to eliminate our family," the mother told Hindustan Times at her small house, which is being guarded by cops.

The woman recalled, "On January 29, when I asked my 14-year-old daughter to make tea, she complained of acute pain in the abdomen. I gave her painkillers, but the pain didn't subside. So, we called the village doctor, Baksheesh Singh, who checked her blood pressure and gave medicine."

"Seeing her bleeding uterus, me and my mother rushed the girl to the civil hospital at Lohian. The doctors called the police, following which she gave her statement," the mother said.

"My daughter revealed that she had gone to answer nature's call in the courtyard around 10 pm on January 28 when the accused covered her face and took her to an unknown place, where they raped her," the mother said, adding that the victim identified the rapists as brothers Charanjit Singh and Sher Singh, and their cousin Balwinder Singh, whose residence is just 100 metres from the victim's house.

Meanwhile, the district (rural) police are yet to arrest the accused. "We have despatched teams of cops to various locations, including Ferozepur, Kapurthala and Dharamkot, to trace the accused," superintendent of police (SP) Rajinder Singh, head of the special investigation team (SIT) in the case, told HT.

"The medical report regarding confirmation of rape is still awaited," the SP added.
