Shellers' union president, 4 others held for rice theft

The district police have arrested five people, including Gora Lal, president of shellers' union, Ahamadgarh, for their involvement in theft of rice from rice sheller and FCI godown.

The police also recovered a truck with 260 bags of rice from Gora Lal's sheller. The rice was stolen from the Tripti rice mill on Nabha Road, Malerkotla.

The other accused were identified as Baljit Singh of Malerkotla, Mohan Singh and Charanjeet Singh, Amandeep Singh and Jograj Singh of Jagrawan.

Sangrur SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu said during the interrogation Gora Lal admitted that besides 260 bags from Tripti rice mill they had also stolen 427 bags from Gango company and 329 bags from FCI godown this month. Cases were registered against them in Balyanwali and Rampur (Sadar) police stations.

The SSP said the police have started investigation to get more details from the accused.
