The Punjab government has decided to shift the new grain market at the land bought for the purpose to another place.
Financial Commissioner (Development) has ordered that in view of the seriousness of the matter establishing amarketing project by Mandi Board could be considered on the landearmarked for the newgrain market.
This direction was issued in a meeting on Nurmahal Grain market held on July 10 which was presided overby the financial commissioner(development).As per proceeding ofthe meeting, he constituted a committee of officials forselecting three sites for acquiring land for grain market.
Additional director Mandi Board Chandigarh Daljit Singh, who is member of this committee on Monday visited Nurmahal to select three sites for shifting new grain market. He was accompanied by additional deputy commissioner (development) Jalandhar Harminder Singhand SP(O) Jalandhar Gurmit Singh who are other members of this committee.
When contacted Harminder Singh said that he along with other members visited Nurmahal only forinspecting land sites and did not selected any. He said this decision would betaken by high powered committee. As per proceeding of the meeting held on July 10opinion of advocate general was sought on transfer of land acquired for the construction of new grain market.
Financial commissioner(development) made it clear in the meeting that land acquired for specific purpose cannot be tranferred.
