Member of district west grievances redressal committee Satish Thaman, on Wednesday, submitted a memorandum to the chairman of the committee urging that the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) police station be shifted to Rishi Nagar as it has to manage a large area which causes inconvenience to the residents.

Thaman said the PAU police station, Hambran Road, comprised of Rajpur Chowk road to Hambran road and Haibowal dairy complex to Medicity which, indeed, was a huge area to be managed. PAU police station operates from Haibowal.

"To implement a better law and order situation in the area, PAU police station can be shifted opposite the vacant location of government institute of textile chemistry and knitting technology, Rishi Nagar, where an unauthorised garbage dump has come up," Thaman stated in a letter to the chairman.

He further stated that the Haibowal police station be shifted to the present area occupied by the PAU police station so that two areas could be managed by the police with ease.

He further said that there was a need to increase patrolling by police in Rishi Nagar due to the increasing rate of crime in this area.
