The court of additional session judge Karunesh Kumar on Tuesday announced a five-year jail term for four persons — including alleged Babbar Khalsa activist Harminder Singh — who were held with RDX and other explosives in 2010.
However, the accused who were lodged at the Nabha jail during the course of trial, have already completed their prison term and would be released on Wednesday.
Along with Harminder, Jaswinder Singh of Rajpura, Manjinder Singh of Hussainpur and Gurjant Singh of Zirakpur were arrested by Khanna police in July 2010 with three kg RDX, four detonators, four timer devices, a fuse wire, one AK-47 rifle, a pistol, 118 cartridges, $2,322 dollars and Rs 57,000 cash.
A case under sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, section 25 of the Arms Act and sections 17,18, 20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act were registered against them at the city police station in Khanna.
Jaspal Singh Manjhpur, who appeared on the behalf of accused, said the court has announced the sentence with a fine. Since the accused have already completed their sentence period, they would be released from the Nabha jail. Harminder Singh is also the mastermind of the 2007 Shingar cinema bomb blast.
