A local court turned down the bail application of liquor baron Shiv Lal Doda and his nephew Amit Doda, lodged in jail in connection with the murder of 27-year-old Bhim Tonk in Abohar.

The court, however, granted bail to Ashwani Kumar and Vivek, the co-accused in the same case.

On December 11, 2015, Bhim and his associate Gurjant Singh were attacked with sharp-edged weapons at Doda’s farmhouse. Bhim, whose limbs were severed, later died at a hospital in Amritsar. Gurjant, whose limbs were also severed, is under treatment.

During the hearing of bail application of Doda, Bhim’s mother Kaushalya Devi and Gurjant were also present in the court. She reportedly flashed pictures of injuries inflicted on Bhim and Gurjant and sought justice.

Fazilka police had submitted challan against Shiv Lal Doda on April 27. The case against him and 25 others was registered on the statement of one Ranjeet Singh. All the accused are lodged in Fazilka sub-jail.

Doda had evaded arrest for some time and surrendered at the office of Fazilka SSP after his anticipatory bail was rejected by the high court.

Earlier, an Abohar court had allowed the police to conduct a lie-detection test on Doda and Amit, which was done at a forensic lab in Delhi in February.
