Shiv Sena (Hindustan) leader and a barber were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly gangraping a 19-year-old girl.
The accused was identified as Akshay Rathore and barber Joginder Singh Bobbi of city’s Laroia Mohalla and Palika Bazar, respectively.
The victim, in her complaint, stated that the accused met her on Monday night on Kulam road, where her mother was staying at a rented accommodation after shifting from an old location. She said on account of not being able to locate the accommodation till late night, as she did not know the address, the accused offered her to stay in a room near his restaurant.
“When I went to sleep, the accused came to my room and raped me during the night. After some time, a man Joginder arrived and also raped me,” she said, and on Tuesday morning, she ran away from the room and revealed the incident to police.
The accused have been charged under section 376-D (gangrape) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
SHO city police station Raj Kumar said the accused Rathore and Joginder were produced in the court and sent to judicial custody.
Party’s district president Narinder Rathore said Akshay has become the victim of a conspiracy and the party has informed senior leaders of the party.
