After failing to crack the murder case of 40-year-old Zareena of Sikanderpur village, the Jalandhar rural police on Monday suspended Adampur SHO and in-charge of Alawalpur police post for negligence.

SSP (rural) Jaspreet Singh Sidhu said the performance of SHO Gurmit Singh and ASI Raghubir Singh was poor which led to their suspension.

He, however, denied providing further information on the issue. A senior police said that it was second attack on the victim’s family within two months and local police officials apparently failed to make any headway in the case. He said the police had issued sketches of the assailants with the help of Kamlesh who also got injured into this attack.

Zareena died on the spot while her brother-in-law Kamlesh (50), alias Nikka Baba, sustained serious bullet injuries when two assailants fired upon them at their house on April 4 night. The assailants managed to flee from the spot.

Nikka Baba was also attacked on January 18 by a bike-borne armed youth, but he escaped the assault. A complaint was also lodged with the Adampur police.

Nikka ran a temple from his house in Sikandpur village and people used to visit him for seeking solutions for their troubles.
