A day after some supporters of local SHO Gurmeet Singh, including some women, publicly extended support to him and openly accused the mother of a Class 10 girl student, who had levelled some allegations against the SHO, of being a prostitute and runs a brother in her house, the SHO was shifted to the police lines on Thursday.

Superintendent of Police (Headquarter) Balwant Singh confirmed the shifting of the SHO to the police lines .

He said a departmental inquiry had also been initiated against the SHO. He said a new SHO is yet to be appointed.

It may be mentioned here that the SHO's supporters on Wednesday found themselves in a tight spot when the Class 10 girl student confronted them and challenged them to prove the allegations.

She claimed that outsiders had assembled in support of the SHO and to tarnish the image of her family,
She had even threatened to commit suicide in front of the district SSP's office . Later, the girl and her parents met Fatehgarh Sahib DSP yesterday and apprised him of the incident.

A senior police officer said that the police were not ready to believe that the SHO had misbehaved with the girl as the police had received complaints against the girl's family but major 'fault' of the SHO was that he had summoned the girl and her mother to the police station in late hours.

The girl and her family members along with others had been protesting against the SHO since the last week of November for alleged harassment and misbehavior with the girl and others.
