In a broad daylight robbery, six miscreants looted `10 lakh from an employee of a marble shop outside a bank on the Amritsar road here on Monday afternoon.

Gurmail Singh, deputy superintendent of police (DSP), said that the incident took place when Jagdish Chander, an employee of the Faqir Chand Marble House, situated near the Lohara chowk outside the city, was going to deposit money in a jeep at the branch of the Axis Bank on the Amritsar road.

The DSP said that Jagdish Chander told the police that when he reached near the bank, six robbers, who had covered their faces with cloth, came on two motorcycles and started pelting stones on him.

"Some stones hit me and I suffered some injures and, when I stopped my jeep, they snatched the bag containing the cash. I tried to catch hold of one of them but failed and they fled from the spot," the victim mentioned in his statement, said the police official.
"After a preliminary inquiry into the allegations, the police have registered a case against six unidentified people under Section 382 of the Indian Penal Code at Moga city-1 police station," said the DSP.
