Shopkeeper held for stalking

Manifesting their hands-on approach to cases of eve-teasing and other gender-related crimes in the aftermath of the Delhi gang rape, the district police on Monday held an alleged stalker within minutes of getting the complaint and slapped a case against him not only on mild charges of wrongful restraint (section 341) and voluntarily causing hurt (section 323) but also for serious offences of theft (section 379) and assault with intention to outrage modesty (section 341).
A 24-year-old woman of Subhash Nagar here was returning home on a scooter after meeting her parents at Guru Nanak Nagar. As she neared Hotel Presidency in Model Town, she was intercepted by 42-year-old Raju, a shopkeeper in Bassi Khwaju.
The man allegedly blocked her way with his motorcycle and abused her verbally and physically at which she raised an alarm. People gathered there and caught hold of the accused. Someone rang up the police and within minutes a police party arrested the man. Acting on the instructions of SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill, the Model Town police immediately registered a case.
The accused was known to the complainant. In the police station, their kin sparred and accused each other of slander. The woman had stated in her complaint that the accused had also tried to snatch her jewellery besides harassing her physically.
