With the Air India suspending the Amritsar-Delhi-Toronto flight till October, member of Parliament from Amritsar Navjot Singh Sidhu met union aviation minister Ajit Singh and sought early resumption of the flight. He also demanded direct flights to Australia and other key destinations.

Sidhu demanded that the Air India must resume the original Amritsar-Birmingjham-Toronto flight on daily basis which was in demand. He also sought Amritsar's connectivity with destinations like Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Kuala Lampur and Bangkok, keeping in mind the number of Punjabis staying in foreign countries.

The MP urged the minister to take steps to free 360 acres of land from the possession of the Air Force, so that the Amritsar airport can be expanded.
