Firing yet another salvo, Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Sidhu has written to chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and demanded a judicial probe into the alleged 'diversion of funds' meant for the Amritsar Improvement Trust to other places.

"I welcome new projects announced by deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal for the Holy City. But, all this would be as pie in the sky. We cannot befool the public by failing to spend a single penny on the already approved projects worth `200 crore," Sidhu wrote to the CM.

The BJP MP, who is constantly in a war of words with the state government and has been alleging indifference to the Holy City and diversion of its funds to other places, in a written communication to the CM stated that, "You are requested to urgently look into the serious anomaly that how and under what circumstances around `60 crore of the Amritsar Improvement Trust meant to be used on the city development only was shifted out? On whose orders `20 crore was released to the municipalities of Kotkapura, Mansa, Tarn Taran, Nawanshahr and Qadian?"

"Please order a judicial probe into the serious anomaly to ascertain the truth within 10 days and take stringent action against the officials involved in it," Sidhu requested the chief minister.
He also urged the CM to get a probe done on why this was allowed to happen even as the Amritsar municipal corporation was crying for resources and had no avenues even to pay staff salary.

The local MP, who had accused the state government of scuttling his projects, said, "I urge the chief minister to restore the entire money to Amritsar within a week and start execution of the Holy City's ambitious yet pending projects, including solid waste management plant, city bus service, expansion of Bhandari Bridge, installation of CCTV cameras and city sports complex within next two weeks with a mandatory deadline of six months."

He also demanded from the CM the passage of a resolution on the floor of the Vidhan Sabha, recommending to the central government to accord 'special city status for Sri Amritsar Sahib'. Till the time that demand is met by the Centre, earmark special funds for Amritsar to develop this city on lines of Vatican City or Mecca, he said.

To a question, Sidhu said, "There is no other agenda. My only agenda is to get back Amritsar's money or compensation for the city. I make this appeal to the Punjab government."

He added that if a probe is not ordered and money is not returned, this movement of his for the Holy City will continue. "I am fighting for the image of the Holy City," Sidhu said.
