The Sihora village in Payal tehsil is in the grip of cholera and not diarrhoea, it is confirmed.
Five samples of stool taken for test have been found positive for cholera. Cholera also shows the same symptoms as diarrhoea, but it is much more dangerous and at times life-threatening. The main cause of its outbreak is sewage contamination in potable water.
The situation in the area is, however, under control now, as no new case was reported on Monday. District epidemiologist Dr Anil Verma said that all the five samples of stool were positive for cholera. He said that the patients of the area will be under observation of the medical team for at least one more week. The water supply to the village was also restored on Monday.
