The son-in-law of Sikh activist Surat Singh Khalsa, who has been fasting since January for the release of Sikh political prisoners, has been murdered at Chicago in the United States.
Satwinder Singh Bhola, 52, was attacked by unidentified persons with sharp-edged weapons in a parking lot near his house on Monday. He was returning home from his gas station.
Khalsa's son Ravinderjit Singh Gogi confirmed the murder. The family is in a state of shock, Gogi said.
He said the number of attackers was not known. Bhola was the husband of Sarvinder Kaur, who was taking care of Khalsa when he was admitted to a hospital. She returned to the US a few days ago.
Khalsa said he was disturbed by the killing but added that nothing could distract him from his struggle. "My struggle is on and I will not give up," he said.
A pall of gloom descended on Khalsa's house at Hasanpur village in Ludhiana with people pouring in to offer their condolences.
