A call given by Sikh organisations for bandh on Saturday in support of former militant Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, who has been on a fast to demand the release of Sikh prisoners languishing in jails after completing their terms, evoked lukewarm response in the district. The business went as usual in the district including in the city.

There were no reports of protests from anywhere. The business also remained as usual in the smaller towns such as Rampura Phul, Talwandi Sabo and Rama Mandi. However, a march was organised by some people from Rama Mandi to Talwandi Sabo.

The call for bandh had been given by the Damdami Taksal, led by Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala, and other organisations such as the United Akali Dal, the Sikh Youth Federation, the Sikh Youth Front and Shri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee.
