Sikh farmers' eviction from Hry: NAPA asks PM to intervene

Punjabi community in North America expressed its serious concern about the uprooting of Sikh farmers in Congress ruled Haryana state and had written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking his personal intervention on the issue.

Releasing this statement Satnam Singh Chahal executive director North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) said that after the Gujarat episode the Congress ruled state of Haryana followed the footsteps of the Gujarat and started evicting Punjabi farmers settled in Haryana for the last 5 decades on leased land.

Chahal said that the condemnation by the Congress for the action of Gujarat government in the face of similar situation in Haryana is nothing but shedding crocodile tears and vote bank politics.

In a letter addressed to PM, which was released to the media person on Thursday, Chahal said that one hundred and fifty Sikh families of Kulpa Plat in Karah Sahib Village near Pehowa in Kurukshetra district were evicted from the lands which they had cultivated for last 6 decades after a protracted legal battle.

The families were allotted this land on lease for 20 years by then Punjab CM Pratap Singh Kairon.

Punjabi community in North America expressing its concern that on one side Congress party is assuring the Sikh Farmers being uprooted by the BJP-led government of Gujarat and on the other side Congress party led government in Haryana is bent upon to uproot the Sikh farmers from Haryana.

Chahal urged the Prime Minister that Indians should be allowed to work and own land in any part of our country. “A denial will lead to fissiparous tendencies and strengthen ethnic and religious tendencies at the cost of Indians threatening unity of our nation. On behalf of Punjabi vommunity in North America we requested Prime Minister for personal intervention to provide justice to these hard-hit and suffering Punjabi farmers in Gujarat and Haryana,” Chahal said.
