The Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University (SGGSWU) on Friday decided to file a petition against the university grants commission (UGC) in the Punjab and Haryana High Court (HC) for not implementing the high court's order to take a decision on the approval for the physical education (PE) course at the university. Vice chancellor of the SGGSWU Gurmohan Singh Walia alleged, "It has been learnt that some private institutions have been manipulating the officials of the UGC for delaying the inspection so that the university may not admit students to the PE courses in the current session. The admissions in a number of colleges were affected last year due to the starting of these PE courses by us."

Before filing the petition, the university had also requested the union minister for human resource and development Smriti Irani to discuss this issue.

Claiming that the university had sent several representations to the UGC, the VC said that the delay would adversely affect admissions to the university. He said that it had been over two and a half months since the HC's order.

The HC in its order on April 22 had directed the UGC to take a decision on the application filed by the Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University within a month. The HC had barred SGGSWU and Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo, the second respondent in the petition, from admitting students in the PE courses till approval was obtained from the competent authority.
