On the 10th day of their protest for a separate gurdwara management committee, members of the Sikh community staged a protest in front of the mini-secretariat on Tuesday. They were also demanding release of Jarnail Singh Brar, who had to be hospitalised owing to his deteriorating health while observing hunger strike.

It was on Feburary 22 that a group of Sikhs sat of an indefinite fast outside the house of local MP and state Congress chief Ashok Tanwar.

After Jarnail Singh was forcibly hospitalized on Sunday, another Sikh Swaran Singh replaced him.

On Monday, Tanwar had met the ad-hoc Haryana Sikh Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (HSGPC) members and assured that he would arrange their meeting with the Prime Minister soon. However, the protesters refused to lift the hunger strike unless a separate gurdwara body was in place.

Meanwhile, dozens of Sikhs reached the mini secretariat and staged a dharna, seeking release of Jarnail Singh. They blocked the road leading to the mini-secretariat for half an hour. Soon DC Anshaj Singh reached the spot and sought some time from the protesters to meet their demand.

The blockade was lifted after additional deputy commissioner Shiv Parshad Sharma reached there and told the protesters that two people could receive Jairnail Singh as he had been released from the hsopital.
