After more than three months of judicial custody, Punjabi singer Nachhatar Singh Gill was on Friday acquitted of rape and on Saturday released from the central jail here.
He got free after the court allowed the complainant, a model, to withdraw her case. Gill was arrested on December 12 last year here on a charge of exploiting the model sexually on the pretext of giving her a break in a music video. The singer was also accused of shooting a lewd video of her for the MMS (multimedia messaging service) and using it to blackmail her.
The case was registered in June last year after six months of investigation. The police had filed the charge sheet in the court last month. Accused Charandeep Singh Channi, a builder from Hambran road; Raja; and Jagdeep Sohi are also acquitted. The complainant's family was unavailable for comments.
