Gurjeet Singh, 26, a resident of a Patiala village, who was shot at in his right leg by his alleged gilrfriend’s brother on Thursday morning, though stated to be fine by doctors, was referred to Patiala for consultation on Friday. However, the firing accused has not been booked yet.

Gurjeet said that he had met the accused family twice before the incident. He said that he had been in a relationship with the girl since 2010 and she wanted him to settle abroad.

“That is why I shifted to France,” said the victim. He said that the girl’s family had agreed to their marriage. However, after getting around Rs 7 lakh from him, they refused to marry the girl to him.

“I came to Sirhind from the Delhi airport on Tuesday and met the family,” he added, “They asked me to come back on Wednesday night to settle the matter. They took me to some place in their car, I escaped when I realised that I was under threat.”

Gurjeet said he spent the night on a road, while the girl and her brother were constantly in contact with him, asking him to come back in the morning.

“Next day, when I reached their house, I was shot at. I was not carrying any weapon. It was theirs. Also, the allegation of uploading her indecent pictures cannot be true as I was not here when the incident happened and those pictures were uploaded from some other account. They snatched my mobile phone and formatted all data,” he said.

WHAT COPS SAY

Police said that they are still investigating the matter and have not booked the girl’s brother so far.

“Gurjeet approached them first and the incident took place at the girl’s house so we booked the victim for house trespass,” said deputy superintendent of police VS Thind.

“The victim is already booked for uploading the girl’s indecent pictures on social media some 15 days back, we are looking into that case as well,” Thind added.
