Sirsa man arrested on charge of raping minor step-daughter

A 32-year-old man has been arrested by the Sirsa police for allegedly raping and assaulting his step-daughter sexually for the past many days. The victim, 14, with the help of neighbours, registered a rape case against him.

"The entire episode began after the victim's divorced mother married the man recently. She offered her daughter to his new husband," the victim told the police in her complaint.

Earlier this year, Anju Devi 30, divorced her husband, Nikkaram of JJ Colony, Sirsa, and married accused Jagdish of Dhani Teja Singh village. Anju has a son and a daughter from her first marriage.

On Saturday, after the matter came to light, the neighbours of the victim approached the police with the girl. The victim narrated the entire story to the police. After that, the police took charge and started investigation.

On Sunday, the victim tried to attempt suicide by consuming expired drugs at home. Her family took her to the civil hospital here. After treatment, she is now out of danger.

City station house offier (SHO) Suresh pal said the police had registered a case against Jagdish of Dhani Teja Singh village under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the charges are sexual harassment of his minor step-daughter.

"We have arrested the accused and will produce him in court on Monday. The girl's detailed statement will be recorded by a woman officer. The girl's medical test has been conducted," he added.
