A man, a resident of Sirsa district of Haryana, allegedly hanged his three-year-old son to death and later committed suicide by throwing himself before a running train near Pathrala village in the district. Their bodies were found near the village on Thursday morning.

The man’s body was found on the railway track and that of the child was found hanging from the pipe of a tubewell near the village.

The villagers, who noticed the bodies in the morning and also found a Tata Nano lying abandoned there, informed the police. The police reached the spot and, and after investigations, found that the victims were residents of Damdama village in Sirsa district of Haryana.

Station house officer, Sangat police station, Sandeep Singh, said that family members of the victim said that Brahampal Singh had been under stress due to a dispute over a piece of land with his relatives including uncle and cousins.

“The victim’s father Dev Singh said that the victim had left the house along with the child at about 5pm on Wednesday in the car and didn’t come back home,” said the SHO. On a complaint by Dev Singh, the police have booked five people, including Balwinder, Kirpal Singh, Hira Singh, Kulwinder Singh and Surjit Singh under sections 306 IPC for abetment to suicide.

The SHO said the child’s body bore injury marks that showed that he might have been crushed under the vehicle as his feet appeared to have been crushed under a tyre. He also had head injuries. The SHO said that they would go ahead in the case after a report of postmortem of bodies.
