All the officials working at the Sirsa plant of the Haryana Seed Development Corporation (HSDC) and 11 other workers have been served chargesheets in connection with the recent seed scam, after a team from HSDC headquarter found them involved in the scam. The chargesheet will reach the employees concerned within a week.

Notably, a big seed scam came to light here on December 4, when over 1,000 quintals of government wheat seed found way to some private dealers with the involvement of HSDC officials.

Officials of the HDSC responsible for ensuring the distribution of the seeds among farmers in various parts of the district had allegedly sold the wheat seeds worth over Rs 20 lakh in the recent days.

The matter came to light when activists of the Haryana Kisan Manch carried out a sting operation and approached the district authorities with proofs.

Sirsa deputy commissioner J Ganesan, who got the allegations of Prahlad Singh Bharukhera, state president of the Haryana Kisan Manch, probed through additional deputy commissioner Shiv Prashad Sharma, said they were lodging a criminal case against the officials of the HSDC as well as the private dealer.

A team of the HSDC from its Panchkula-based headquarters, comprising chief marketing manager NP Dhankar, quality control manager Rajbir Singh Chaudhary, and senior finance and accounts officer Balwan Singh, conducted a departmental inquiry and went through the records from December 5 to December 7. They later submitted a report to managing director BS Duggal.

There are 34 workers at the Sirsa plant and most of them have been chargesheeted.

After the removal of former manager Om Pal Singh Panwar, the responsibility has now been given to VP Singh Khokhar. VP Singh said that on Thrusday accounts clerks had been replaced.

Parhlad Singh Bharukhera, who brought the deeds of the HSDC officials to light, said, there was need for a strict action against the accused, so that such things never happened in future.

"In the report we found that the official of the department were involved in the seed scam. All will face strict action,"said BS Duggal, MD, HSDC.
