In a tragic incident, two sisters drowned after they fell into a lake at Guru Nanak Dev Thermal Power Plant here on Saturday.

Jasmine, 6, and Diksha, 4, were residents of Balla Ram Nagar here. The incident took place around 11.30am when the children had come to the lake with their mother Poonam, for a walk after their father Pyare Lal, a labourer, left for work.

According to Poonam, Jasmine slipped into the lake accidentally, and in an effort to save her, Diksha also lost balance and slipped into the water. Poonam raised an alarm, following which two men tried to save the children, who were rushed to the civil hospital, where they were declared brought dead.
