Amritsar police commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh has formed a four-member special investigation team (SIT) to probe into the latest attack advocate on Vaneet Mahajan and submit its report in 15 days.
The four-member SIT, led by ADCP (traffic) Dhruman Nimbale, will work under the supervision of deputy commissioner of police Bikram Pal Singh Bhatti.
The police, which are yet to find any major clues in the Sunday night firing, have registered a case against unidentified persons at police station A division.
Talking to HT, Commissioner of Police Aulakh said, "The SIT will probe the matter in detail and give report in 15 days. We will also be questioning the security personnel deployed with Mahajan as they were present with him when the firing took place."
Notably, unidentified miscreants had opened fire on Mahajan's car on Sunday evening at Kashmir Avenue. At the time of incident, Mahajan himself was driving the car while his gunmen were also sitting in the vehicle. This was the third attack on Mahajan in 2014.
Stressing that he had no faith in the SIT formed by the police commissioner, Mahajan said, "We want a high level probe in this attack on me. And I again demand that a state-level SIT be formed."
BJP SEEKS DISMISSAL OF MAHAJAN'S GUNMEN
BJP spokesperson RP Maini said, "We want that a high level probe be ordered into the attack. I have already spoken to the police commissioner and demanded that the gunmen attached with advocate Mahajan be dismissed."
