With the arrest of six people, the police claimed to have solved the murder of a 'gangster' Sumit of Jalandhar, who was allegedly strangled to death in November 2011 but the crime had gone unreported.

The accused have been identified as Sanjay Disavar of Valmiki Colony of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Rajwant Singh alias Chida of Baba Deep Singh Nagar, Gurmeet Singh alias Raju Mota of Satjit Nagar, Suneet alias Sonu Mota, Sahil Sethi and Amit Kumar alias Bholu.

A case has been registered against the accused under sections 302, 364,201,148,149 and 120 B of the IPC at the Dugri police station.

Their accomplices who are still evading arrest are Vikas Talwar, Munish Talwar, Sonu Kumar, Bikramjit Singh alias Chhinda, Sonu Ainka Wala and Amrik Singh.

According to the police the accused had killed Sumit following a gang war and had dumped his body in bushes near Neelon Canal bridge.

The police said after eliminating their rival, the gang members celebrated the occasion by organizing a party at the house of Vikas Talwar.

Police commissioner Paranjit Singh Gill said the police have also recovered the Xylo vehicle from the possession of the accused, which had been used to take Sumit's body up to Neelon Canal bridge.

He said more revelations are expected during the interrogation of the accused.

One accused also wanted in Barara kidnapping

One of the accused in the police net, Amit Kumar alias Bholu of Dr Ambedkar Nagar, was also wanted in connection with the kidnapping of industrialist Manish Barara. With Amit's arrest, all six kidnapping accused are now in custody.
