Six people were killed and 24 injured when a bus fell into a rivulet near Rampur, 100 km from Shimla, at 7am on Friday.

The private bus, headed from Jeori to Shimla, had over 30 people on board when the bus skid off a bridge on the Machhada rivulet, a tributary of the Sutlej.

Local residents, the administration and the army rushed to the site and recovered six bodies, including that of the driver.

Soldier Narinder Verma, who escaped with minor injuries, said that possibility of some bodies being washed away into river Sutlej could not be ruled out.

The 24 injured were taken to a hospital at Rampur, 15 km from the accident spot.

The eyewitnesses said that the bus skidded off due to the accumulation of silt on the roadside following heavy rain in the region.
