Six of family booked for youth's death

punjab Updated: Mar 14, 2012 21:46 IST

Six members of a girl's family were booked on charge of murdering a youth who was accused of making advances towards her.

On a written complaint by Malkiat Kaur, mother of deceased Gagandeep Singh (21) of Sohal village, 8 km from here, on Wednesday, Dhariwal police have registered a case under Sections 302 and 120-B of IPC against Pargat Singh, his wife Rani, son Jagroop Singh, daughter Prabhjit Kaur and relatives Kaka and Brahma, all residents of Sohal village.

Malkiat said in her police complaint that the parents of the girl had complained to her that Gagandeep had been teasing their daughter. She said that she, along with her son and nephew Rajbir Singh of Deepewal village, went to Pargat's house, where both parties reached a compromise after Gagandeep promised to mend his ways.

"We were offered cold drink before we left Pargat's house. We had covered just 10 yards on our way home when Gagandeep fell down. We took him to a hospital in Dhariwal, from where he was referred to the government hospital in Amritsar, but he died on the way," said Malkiat, accusing Pargat and his family members of mixing some poisonous substance in the cold drink offered to Gagandeep.
