As many as six illegally under-construction shops were demolished for violating the building bylaws by the Municipal Corporation (MC) on the Sekhewal Road here on Thursday.

The shops were being constructed near the government school in Sekhewal. It is learnt that these shops were being constructed with the support of a local political leader.

The MC officials along with JCB machines visited the area, after which, all illegally underconstruction shops were razed. Assistant town planner (ATP) Harpreet Ghai said, “Shops were being constructed illegally. The demolition was carried out following a complaint and the direction of the MC commissioner,” he added.

Ghai added that the MC’s drive against illegal construction of buildings could continue.
