SLIET student dies in road mishap

Harpreet Singh, student of B Tech second year (Information Technology) at Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering & Technology (SLIET), Longowal, was killed when his motorcycle hit a stray animal on Sunday at around midnight.

Pillion riders Harmandeep Singh and Amanpreet Singh were injured.

The students were going from SLIET to take dinner in late hours at one of the dhabas on Barnala-Sangrur main road. Somewhere between Harigarh canal and Rajwada dhaba, their motorcycle hit an animal, lost control and fell on the road.

The locals took them to the Dhanuala health centre, from where they were shifted to the Barnala civil hospital in an ambulance. Harpreet Singh was declared brought dead. The injured were then shifted to Arora Neuro Centre, Ludhiana, where they are reportedly out of danger.

Dhanaula SHO Gurbhajan Singh said that Harpreet Singh, resident of Ludhiana, was a student of B.Tech (information technology), Harmandeep Singh of Baghapurana is doing B Tech (food technology) and Amanpreet Singh of Ludhiana is doing B Tech (mechanical engineering).

SLIET PRO Sukhinder Singh Punia said that the institute was trying to access CCTV footage to get more information on the incident.
