Smelling anomalies, vigilance dept raids PRTC's fabricating unit

Suspecting use of substandard iron in construction of buses, the sleuths of vigilance bureau (VB) on Thursday conducted a surprise inspection at fabrication cell in the main workshop of Pepsu Roadways Transport Corporation (PRTC) here.

The inspection team, led by deputy superintendent of police (VB) KD Sharma, carried inspection for more than two hours.

The team included special technical experts from Chandigarh and industrial training institutes (ITIs).

The VB team also collected around 12 different samples of iron used in constructing body of PRTC buses and sent them for further analysis. The officials minutely went through records pertaining to purchase of iron and other parts used in the construction of buses.

"We have got some serious reports from our sources regarding use of poor quality of iron and other material used during construction of body of buses by PRTC fabrication cell following which the surprise checking has been carried out", said Harpreet Singh, senior superintendent of police (VB).

He added that the sources informed that iron used has not been at par with specifications needed for body of the buses.

"The action will be initiated against the erring staff of PRTC only after we would get analysis reports of selected samples", Singh said.

Meanwhile, inspection team also scrutinised records of firms from where PRTC had purchased iron and other material.
