A 30-year-old woman was injured after being attacked with a sickle by an unidentified motorcyclist, who tried to snatch her bag, on National Highway-1 in Amritsar on Tuesday.

Neha, 30, of Mahal village on the outskirts of the city, who is in housekeeping at Trillium Mall, was rushed to the Amritsar civil hospital.

Narrating the incident, Neha told HT that an unidentified person, who was wearing a helmet, attacked her with the sickle on the right arm and tried to take away her bag. The snatcher again hit her on the left arm.

“I ducked when he attacked me the third time otherwise he would have chopped off my arm. The incident took place near a gurdwara and police can identify the accused from closed-circuit television footage,” said Neha, adding that nobody helped her even as she was bleeding profusely on the road.

Police have registered a case. Deputy commissioner of police J Elanchezhian said the police would scan the CCTV footage and the accused would be caught soon. He said more police patrol teams would be deployed in the city for the safety of women.
