Snatchers’ gangs busted in Bathinda; nine nabbed

In two different cases, police have arrested nine members of two looters’ and snatchers’ gangs and recovered snatched mobile phones, banned drugs and two weapons from their possession.

The police nabbed seven members of mobile snatchers’ gang and recovered 10 mobile phones from them on Monday . The arrested accused have been identified as Harish Kumar, Pradeep, Ritik Mehta, Narinder Singh, Maninder Singh, Saurav Kumar and Vijay.

Devinder Singh, superintendent of police (SP) (city), said that after receiving a tip-off, police party nabbed the seven gang members when they were travelling on two motorcycles and a scooter near multipurpose sports stadium.

“The accused were involved in incidents of snatching mobile phones from people in different areas of the city. We will be interrogating the arrested accused to know their involvement in other crimes in the area as well,” Singh added.

In the second case, police nabbed two persons and recovered 200gm of narcotic powder, one .32 bore pistol with four live cartridges and another .315 bore pistol with two live cartridges. The arrested accused have been identified as Anantpreet Singh and Ravinder Singh. They were nabbed near grain market here while travelling in a Maruti Suzuki Alto car bearing registration number DL 8 CH 8858, on Tuesday.

SP (city) said that accused Anantpreet is already facing a case of theft. He said that police will be interrogating the accused to know the purpose of carrying the firearms with them. He said that Anantpreet is close to gangster Kulbir Naruana and both arrested accused had opened fire in air to scare people near railway station here on September 25.
