With Amritsar police failing to curb the incidents of snatching, two women were robbed of their belongings in different parts of the city on Saturday.

In the first incident, miscreants snatched a purse of a woman in Civil Lines area of the city. The woman was accompanying her husband when the accused came and snatched her purse near Pink Plaza. The purse contained two mobiles and the keys of the couple's house.

In the other incident, a woman was robbed of her gold bangles in an area, falling under D-Division police station. In her complaint, victim Vijay Kumari, claimed, "On July 19, when I went to buy vegetables, an unidentified person came to me and asked me to meet his mother-in-law in a car which was standing there. When I went there to meet her, the accused made me sit in the car and close the door of the vehicle. The accused hypnotised me and snatched my gold bangles, wighing 30 gm, pushed me out of the car and ran away."

The police have registered cases in both the incidents and started investigations.

The city has witnessed a spurt in incidents of snatching recently and the Amritsar police has not been able to curb the crime despite repeated assurances by police commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh.
