Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)'s Patiala MP Dharamvira Gandhi on Saturday hit back at the party's Punjab convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur saying his working style is more beneficial to the Congress and SAD than AAP.
Gandhi openly blamed Chhotepur and Punjab party in-charge Sanjay Singh for "destroying the party" in the state. He claimed that Chhotepur is being run by some Congress and Akali leaders. "I don't want to comment on Chhotepur's integrity as everyone knows how big a turncoat he is and how he changes his ideology," Gandhi said.
Reacting to Amritsar MP Capt Amarinder Singh's statement, Gandhi said, "What does Captain mean by saying that Chhotepur is his friend and the only seasoned leader in AAP? Has he forgotten who defeated Preneet Kaur on their home turf?" He said the AAP volunteers had dented the bastions of the SAD and Congress, but the new leadership had demoralised the AAP cadres.
Reacting to Chhotepur's statement that Gandhi would meet the same fate as Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan, Gandhi said he would continue to oppose the leaders who had demorlised the rank and file of the party.
"My struggle against those who are bent on changing the character of the party by turning it into a party of sycophants and tainted politicians of the Akali Dal and Congress and making it a family affair will continue," Dr Gandhi said, adding, "I will continue with my struggle for the revival of the party and the morale of volunteers."
He said he feared that Chhotepur and some central leaders would further demoralise the party, which would benefit the SAD-BJP and Congress.
He said, "Under the guise of a new structure, some AAP leaders, with the blessings of some others in Delhi, are not only compromising with the basic principles AAP stood for but are also doing immense harm to the party by ignoring and insulting the honest and dedicated volunteers."
"There is an historic opportunity and challenge before the people of Punjab in 2017 to decimate the mafia SAD-BJP rule and the corrupt Congress, but by fast changing the ideological and organisational character of AAP, these leaders, knowingly or unknowingly, are playing into the hands of enemies of AAP and Punjab," Gandhi said while referring to Chhotepur and Sanjay Singh.
"By appointing leaders with a dubious political and social background at the cost of honest and faithful volunteers, these leaders are out to destroy the party," he said.
