The district consumer disputes redressal forum has cancelled the electricity bill worth Rs 1.5 lakh issued by Punjab Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to a consumer. The complainant's son holds another connection in his name.

In his complaint against PSPCL, Mohinder Singh, a resident of Amanatpur village here had stated that he has been holding a domestic electric connection. On December 15, 2011, he received an electricity bill, according to which he had to pay Rs 1.5 lakh as electricity bill charges.

Singh said that his son was holding another connection in his name which he was using for agriculture purpose. "The PSPCL included arrears to the tune of Rs 1.5 lakh in his electricity bill, which power com has earlier demanded in the electricity bill of his son," added Singh.

He said that his son had already challenged the power bill in consumer forum and the case is still pending, and contended that he was not liable to pay such amount.

The PSPCL replied that the charges of defaulting amount were leveled by Harpreet Singh, son of complainant. "As Harpreet was residing with his father and was also the user of his domestic electricity connection, thus the defaulting arrears were added in electricity connection owned by his father," said PSPCL.

The district consumer forum bench comprising of president Jaspal Singh Bhatia and members Darshan Singh and Jyotsna Thatai in its order forum held that the PSPCL cannot demand the same amount from two persons and set aside the demand of Rs 1.5 lakh by PSPCL.
