Special rooms for councillors and not development is on the top agenda of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) councillors of the Patiala municipal corporation. After rocking the previous three general meetings, the issue of non-availability of specific room for councillors again came to the fore during the F&CC meeting with SAD members urging mayor Jaspal Pardhan to look into the issue.

After rocking the previous three general meetings, the issue of non-availability of specific room for councillors again came to the fore during the F&CC meeting with SAD members urging mayor Jaspal Pardhan to look into the issue.

In the plan of the present building of the civic body, there was availability of a big room especially for councillors to use it for their daily work.

However, the room was converted into the office of the then senior deputy mayor, Anil Bajaj of BJP, during the previous term of the SAD-BJP civic house and councillors were given a smaller room that is now being used for routine office work of the corporation.

Sources said following continuous pressure from the councillors, the mayor repeatedly requested the present senior deputy mayor, Jagdish Rai, to shift to the new, but comparatively smaller room.

However, the senior deputy mayor has turned down the request, terming it as "disrespect" for councillors of the alliance partner - BJP.

The mayor said efforts were on to resolve the issue. "I am trying to convince the senior deputy mayor. Councillors have also been asked to maintain restraint and don't give any political angle to the issue," he added.
