Cricket enthusiasts, who had gone to see the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) matches at Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) IS Bindra Stadium, were in for a rude shock owing to overcharging in the name of parking fee.

SAS Nagar Municipal Corporation had given the parking contract to a Patiala-based company, and its employees were seen fleecing people on Tuesday.

At the Phase 9 and 10 parking lots, spectators were forced to pay fee ranging between Rs 50 and Rs 100.

Even though the municipal corporation had directed the employees of the contractor to be courteous to the spectators, and get their vehicles parked properly, they were seen violating orders with impunity, which even resulted to an argument.

Councillor Arun Sharma said, “Such incidents spoil the town’s image as people from different parts of the country come to watch the matches.”

The MC officials stated that they did not receive any complaint and if they get any complaints appropriate action will be taken.
