In a relief for the Sikh devotees and the residents of the town and adjoining areas, the Sriganganagar Nanded Express will now halt at the Gidderbaha railway station, though on a trial basis.
Local Congress MLA Amarinder Singh Raja Warring was on the train that made its maiden stop at the local railway station on Thursday.
"I had been making continuous effort in this regard and also raised the issue with Rahul Gandhi.
Passengers were forced to first visit Bathinda to catch a train for visiting Nanded, a historical and religious place of importance for Sikhs. The stoppage will also benefit traders who often visit Delhi on business," said Raja, who was received by his supporters.
