A 35-year-old alleged stalker shot dead a woman before shooting himself in Bhikhi town, about 20km from Mansa, on Sunday morning.
Victim Paramjit Kaur, 31, whose husband died of drowning 10 years ago, is survived by her two son.
Her assailant Baltej Singh, 35, of Khiwa Kalan village, pumped two bullets into her head with a .22-bore revolver when she had gone to the Bhikhi market around 8.30am to purchase medicines for her son, who was accompanying her.
Paramjit’s brother-in-law Jasveer told the police that Baltej Singh used to stalk her for the past some time, and she had even objected to it.
After shooting Paramjit, the accused turned the gun on himself and committed suicide, said Mansa deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Jasmeet Singh.
A case of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Bhikhi police station.
