State Child Right Protection Commission probes death of 5 infants in MCH

State Child Right Protection Commission (SCRPC), Chandigarh, met Ludhiana civil surgeon Dr Renu and senior medical officer of Lord Mahavira Civil Hospital Dr Parvinderpal Singh Sidhu, regarding probe of death of five infants in November last year at Mother Child Hospital (MCH) attached to the civil hospital, on Tuesday.

The SCRPC has taken the notice of the issue and called the meeting to know the shortcomings of the hospital, which lead to the death of five infants.

SCRPC chairman Sukesh Kalia said, “Civil surgeon and SMO Ludhiana had submitted the report and inquiry taken on the doctors concerned. Now I have asked them to submit more details in the case, which they will be submitting in short time.”

He said, “Although action has been taken against the defaulters, but we will submit our own report to the government, highlighting the shortcomings and suggestions to improve those shortcomings to stop such incidents in future.”

Two newborns died and three stillbirths were reported in a single day at Mother Child Hospital (MCH) attached to Lord Mahavira Civil Hospital on November 23, 2014, due to absence of the specialist doctors. An inquiry was done on two levels and one gynecologist was suspended. SMO and paediatrician and a class 4 employee were transferred and showcause notice was issued to the staff nurse.
