High velocity storm along with heavy rain in and around Pathankot came as a havoc for the family of a labourer as it took the life their one-year-old daughter.
Due to stormy weather on Friday night, at around 11pm, the roof of a makeshift hut collapsed in Abrol Nagar locality due to which the girl died on the spot.
As per reports, an iron sheet that flew off a neighbouring house, and was uprooted due to the storm, landed on the hut of migrant labourer Vishav Karma, 30, of Uttar Pradesh. He was sleeping in the house at the time of the accident, along with his wife Ganga, 27, and their two daughters. The roof caved in which resulted in the death of their one-year-old daughter Priya. The other daughter, however, had miraculous escaped.
Vishav and Ganga were rushed to civil hospital as they had sustained injuries due to bricks falling on them, but were informed to be out of danger now.
On Saturday morning, the family and people of the locality were seen mourning over death of the child.
Life out of gear, trees uprooted
The storm caused a lot of destruction in the district, leaving life out of gear in Pathankot. Mango trees were uprooted in many parts of the district, while the felling of trees on power supply lines caused power snag in many parts of the district. The residents are rendered powerless for hours due to the storm. The locals are facing scarcity of drinking water in the absence of power supply.
On Mission Road, near eye specialist Dr KD Singh’s residence, an old mango tree fell, obstructing the road connecting Mission Road to Dalhousie Road for around 2-3 hours. Storm has also damaged standing crop in the district, details of which is still unknown.
