Cows, bulls and dogs roam on the busy streets and even residential areas, endangering the life and property of the residents. Most animals are simply abandoned by the owners after they stop gicing good yield.
Stray dogs are no less a menace, often chasing and barking at the motorists and pedestrians.
These stray dogs even attack the children lingering around the houses "Most of these dogs have never been vaccinated and there is a good chance of getting rabies in case they bite," said Bharpur Singh, a resident of Hawara village near Khamano.
He said only private organisations have opened gaushalas that are not enough to contain the menace.
The issue of stray animals was also discussed in the meeting of Bhartiya Kisan Union (Rajewal) at Khamano on Wednesday. District president Kashmira Singh Jattana said stray animals was an issue that needed to be tackled by the administration on priority.
