The unexpected high velocity winds on Friday evening disrupted the evening programmes of day two of yoga festival here on Friday.
Two events were scheduled for yoga festival in evening at Sector 17 parade ground -moonlight yoga and Bharatnatyam performance by famous classical dancer Suchitra Mitra.
Soon after Suchitra Mitra presented her performance along with artistes, sudden storm disrupted the programme. The stage got damaged as high velocity winds started and the LED screen displayed behind the stage broke into pieces. The artistes standing on the stage had a miraculous escape when the LED fell into pieces on the stage. The scene at the parade ground changed within minutes with broken mats, torn posters and hoardings.
The spectators, around 100 of them at the parade ground, also left the venue. Even the scheduled moonlight yoga could not take place due to the storm.
The senior officials said the moonlight yoga and 3D LED yoga will be held together at parade ground on June 12. Keeping in view the sudden storm and rain prediction in mid-June, the senior officials held a meeting to discuss plan B for the main yoga day event to be held on June 21 where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will perform yoga along with 30,000 people at Capitol Complex.
The administration officials said the venue would remain the same but certain precautions and arrangements would be made to tackle any storm or rain on June 21 or a day before that so that the programme is held without any disruption.
