Taking quick action, the district administration here on Wednesday rescued 150 tourists who were stranded at Solang Nallah, 13 km from here, following heavy snowfall on Wednesday.
The tourists had gone to Solang Nallah to enjoy the snow there in the morning. However, following heavy snowfall in the afternoon, nearly 50 vehicles got stuck at the tourist spot due to slush and snow on the road. The extreme cold conditions added to the tourists' misery.
However, on getting information about the situation, local sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Vinay Dhiman and additional superintendent of police (ASP) Shamsher Singh rushed to the spot and supervised the evacuation of the tourist spot. All the tourist vehicles were able to leave Solang Nallah in one-and-a-half hours.
A local resident, Jogi Ram, said that had the officers not come to evacuate the tourists, the situation could have gotten worse. Dhiman has advised tourists to avoid visiting Solang Nallah and other snowbound areas during winter.
